Review of TVS Stryker

Specification Breakdown and Analysis:

Overview: The TVS Stryker is a brand new 125 CC premium commuter come street fighter from TVS Motors (Source). This bike is for the International market of TVS Motors. There is no news of launching it in India yet.

It was first launched in Colombia along with some other streamline motorcycles as an entry to the Central American Market. After that, it was launched in Bangladesh. The bike looks very stylish and very sporty at first glance.  Let’s see what else the bike has to offer.

Design: The TVS Stryker as a 125cc premium commuter motorcycle the design of the bike has played the role it should play. Stryker 125 is very eye catchy at first glance. One could not ignore the new Stryker 125 on the road.

The Stryker is elegant with style. The front headlamp cowl of the TVS Stryker is newly designed and the tinted visor has a new design that we did not saw in any TVS bikes.

A very common looking fuel tank and bikini fairings are attached to the fuel tank give the bike the elegant look with a style I was talking about. The handlebar remains the same commuter type raised handlebar. The Headlamp is trapezoidal shaped and looks like the Apache RTR from the sides.

The all-LED tail lamp is taken from the RTR series. The front disk design is taken from the RTR series. The seat design is also taken from the 2015 Phoenix 125. The body color has dual-tone finishing.

The new graphic design looks stunning. The lower part of the bike has given a matte black finish while the central upper part has been painted in the main body color. The Exhaust is fitted with an Eco-thrust branded chrome finished heat shield that looks premium.

The dye cast pillion footrest is from the RTR series and looks premium on the bike. By the looks, the Stryker is like a baby Apache RTR. In the design for the premium commuter, this Stryker hits a bull’s eye.

Instrument Console: The instrument console of the Stryker 125 is the same that we saw in the 2015 Phoenix 125. However, the console is equipped with a digital tachometer, along with the speedometer, fuel gauge indicator. All of these are positioned in the middle.

The low battery indicator, service indicator, turn signal indicator, headlight indicator, and a neutral indicator is placed in the left side. I would say that the decision of using this instrument console was definitely a smart one.

Switch gears: The switch gears are standard and of premium quality. Other switch gears include pass lights, headlight switch, Engine kill switch, and other common switches included push-button start.

Engine: The Stryker is powered by the same 125cc engine from the 2015 Phoenix 125 which is actually 124.53cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 2-valve, SOHC, Eco-Thrust engine. This engine uses a Molycoat type of coated piston that reduces friction between piston and cylinder wall which results in more efficient combustion. Moreover, it has a dynamic tuning technology that helps to regulate the flow of air-fuel mixture into the engine for a proper balance between power and economy.

This engine can produce 11BPS of peak power at 8000 RPM and 10.8NM of torque at 5500 RPM which considered okay powerful considering its rivals. But at the same time, the Stryker is considered to have the most refined and smooth engine than its rivals as the Phoenix. This bike comes with a 10 Liter fuel tank and a UCAL UCD 25 carburetor.

Transmission, Clutch, and Final drive train: The TVS Metro Plus is mated with a 5-speed gearbox having a ratio of 3.273, 1.765, 1.238, and 0.958 respectively on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. This transmission uses a wet multi-plate type clutch. The gear shifts are an all-up pattern. The bike is equipped with a heel and toe shifter so you don’t have to worry about your shoes. The final drive is chain and sprockets.

Electricals: The TVS Metro Plus uses a 12 V, 5 Ah Lead Acid battery. The bike has a 12 V, 110 W flywheel magneto. The bike uses a DC-Digital TCI Ignition System. The Bike has bright 35/ 35 W Multi reflector clear lens AC headlamp, 5/ 21 W tail/ Brake light, and each 10 W clear lens turn signal light.

Wheels and Tires:  The Stryker 125 is equipped with 17 inches six-spoke matte Black finished rims. The rims are fitted with 80/100-17” tubeless tire at the front and 90/90-17” tubeless tire at the rear. Which is decent in this segment but some of its rivals have a wider tire at the rear.

Breaks: The Stryker 125 comes with a 240mm roto-petal disk brake with 2 piston caliper in the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. This brake setup should deliver superior braking performance through faster heat dissipation.

Suspension:  The Stryker is equipped with Hydraulic Telescopic forks at the front and Toggle link springs in a series set up with hydraulic damped shocks (as we saw in the 2012 Phoenix) at the rear which is attached with rectangular swing arm. This suspension is better than most of the bikes in this segment for soaking up all the bumps of all kind roads with even a pillion in the back.

Chassis & Dimensions: TVS used a Single cradle tubular frame for the foundation of the Stryker, which should be enough for a 125 CC bike. The TVS Stryker has an overall length of 2013 mm, a width of 752 mm, a height of 1085 mm, and a ground clearance of 173 mm, a wheelbase of 1273 mm. The wet weight (with tool kit & 90% of fuel) of the bike is 117 kg. These mean that the bike has an above-average footprint in terms of dimensions.

Comfort and handling: The Stryker is a very comfortable bike to ride, might not be as comfortable as the 2015 Phoenix 125 but definitely comfortable because of those series spring setup. The seat is from 2015 Phoenix so that is well cushioned as well. The handling of this bike is very easy thanks to its 117KG wet weight and 1273 mm wheelbase. The bike has 173 mm ground clearance which is enough for any road condition on Bangladesh.

Conclusion:  The 2015 Stryker 125 is a perfect blend of price, performance, and comfort for an entry-level commuter with touches of elegance and style of the 150cc motorcycles. It is highly recommended for new riders.
